NEW YORK, NY – The third weekend in September marked the 10th anniversary of Team Delilah, a charity walk team that participates in the annual Junior Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Walk to cure Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).

This team was started by former Stanwich parents Nick and Anastasia Brien in support of Anastasia and their daughter Delilah who are both affected by T1D.  Last year, this team raised $47,811 to go towards diabetes research, and this year they are at $32,910 dollars with a goal of $50,000.

People of all different ages and over 50 different teams come together for a leisurely stroll across the bridge with the beautiful cityscape in the background, all with a common goal of helping to do their part to end TD1 by raising donations.  With all of the teams’ donations combined, the JDRF 2017 walk raised more than $750,000 in total for research and they are attempting to double that number to $1.5 million by the time of next year’s walk.

The JDRF Walk takes place at the end of September every year and is a 4k walk from Foley Square Park in Manhattan to Cadman Plaza Park, and is almost as fun as it is charitable.

Charles Frascella, a Stanwich 7th grader, attended the walk and enjoyed the event.

“I had a lot of fun doing the walk.  It was great getting out and participating in a charity walk on such a great day for a good cause.”

Charity walks are one of the best ways to help do something positive for your community, have fun, and get out and be active all at once.  Below is a link to JDRF’s donation page if you want to contribute in helping end T1D, and according to JDRF’s catchphrase, “Turn Type 1 into Type none!”
