NEWSROOM – The Stanwich Student government took shape this week, with

The Stanwich Post will cover the government and its work all year long.

SENIOR HOUSE- In a close contest held in September, Maeve Sebold won the Student Government presidency, with Sky Huang becoming her Vice President.

This is Sky’s first year on the student government.  Maeve however was a part of the government as a 9th and 10th grader.  Both of the candidates gave speeches about their ideas and intentions.

Sky’s ideas were more competition-based.  He wants to learn from the past about what will and won’t work.  Sky wants to introduce the Stanwich Olympics which would include competitions other than tug of war and bounce house obstacle courses.  Sky also wants a new workout space with equipment such as weights and maybe pull up bars.  This could be beneficial to a fitness program and high school students looking to get in shape.

A few of Maeve’s ideas were to increase school spirit and more dress downs and freedom on Halloween including masks and facepaint.  Most importantly, she wants a say for everyone.  Maeve thought it would be a good idea to put up suggestion boxes and possibly send out a survey for both the Junior and Senior House as her first act as President.

However, in the past student government has disappeared shortly after the election.

“As president, I will make sure that student government meets at least twice a month for the whole year, and possibly more times if warranted,” she said.  “Unlike past student governments, this year’s will meet often and give frequent reports.”  Maeve wants her first meeting to be the week of October 9th.

In a historical first, Maeve will serve in government and as Editor for The Stanwich Post.  Post guidelines will keep strict separation between her roles so she does not report on herself.  The Post will cover the government closely and Maeve will recuse herself from that coverage.  That said, Maeve may write columns in her role as President on the website.

After the announcement of President and Vice President the student government is now finalized:
