SENIOR HOUSE – The robotics team’s weeks of hard work and their bots were put to the test in 2017 Botball competition.

The team used the weeks leading up to the competition building and programming the two robots that they would use to complete tasks within the allotted amount of time.  These tasks included moving pom-poms from one area to another and having the bots reach a specific area by the time the round was over.

Although the team wasn’t very successful in the double-elimination rounds, the team was able to win first place in the alliance category with the assistance of the American Dream Charter School, who placed seventh overall.

Violetta Chen, a junior, was surprised that the team had done so well in the alliance matches.

“It was a great experience.  We didn’t know that we had won an award until the closing ceremony, so it came as a surprise to us all.”

Peter Xu, a junior, thinks that the team will do even better next year.

“It is the first year for most of the members on the team, and we’ve learned a lot from this year’s competition.  We can’t wait to make our team better and more competitive next year.”

Plans have already been made relating to what the team can do to improve their performance at next year’s competition.
